About Lyn
Lyn McDonell is a governance, strategy and organizational effectiveness consultant. She is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) and a Chartered Director (C. Dir).
Lyn has deep hands-on leadership experience gained from senior positions in provincial and national Canadian not-for-profit organizations as Executive Director, COO and CEO. As COO of the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA), Lyn helped a board task force lead governance change. That initiative later earned the CDA The Conference Board of Canada/Spencer Stuart 2005 National Award for Not-for-Profit Governance.
Lyn earned her Masters of Arts (MA) in organizational development focusing on the life cycle of organizations. She has specialized training in strategy development gained from the Advanced Strategy Executive Program of the Richard Ivey School of Business (University of Western Ontario) and offered by the USA-based Balanced Scorecard Collaborative/The Palladium Group. She knows how to develop and map sound strategy using the Balanced Scorecard method.
In governance, Lyn earned her professional designation (Chartered Director - C.Dir.) from The Directors College, accredited by McMaster University. Lyn is a director of two boards including the newly recruited board of Canada's largest urban community hospital, The Scarborough Hospital. She also serves on the Not-for-Profit Organizations Task Force of The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), contributing advice regarding its publications on governance. Lyn is a member of the Strategic Leadership Forum, BoardSource, and the Canadian Society of Association Executives.
Lyn works with her own clients and provides consulting support to the clients of Leader Quest Inc., Humber Corporate Education, and the Association Resource Centre. Her clients are based in Canada and Asia (Hong Kong and South Korea). Lyn's Asian consulting work began as a result of referral from Canadian clients to their affiliates. Lyn reports that, while the context is different, interestingly, the organizational challenges are similar.

Our core team helps Lyn deliver governance, strategy and facilitation solutions for clients -- depending on the assignment, either working directly with your group or in the background with supporting insights. They are Scott Dudgeon, Kurt Kroesen, Tallie Rabin-Claassen, Fran Walsh, John Hamilton, and Dilip Sharma. Scott Dudgeon recently retired from his position of Chief Executive Officer of the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Scott’s career focus has been one of improving the integration of health services. Kurt Kroesen, CMA, MBA is the past Senior Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of Canadian Diabetes Association, instrumental in helping the organization grow from a $22 million revenue organization to a nearly $80 million one. He led significant financial restructuring initiatives that supported the growth of the Association. Tallie Rabin-Claassen is currently is completing her M.Ed. in Adult Education & Community Development and has a combination of 15 years experience founding, developing, managing and raising funds for organizations. Fran Walsh has deep experience and insight into how to grow not-for-profit organizations and she trains staff regarding volunteer management. She led the Canadian Cancer Society - Greater Toronto Region for many years and is an instructor with Humber Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning. Dilip Sharma MBA, CMA provides high-level financial health analysis of organizations which assists our understanding of the current state of organizations as they undertake strategic planning. John Hamilton is an experienced writer and assists in reports' preparation. Yvette Bailey and Liz Mills provide administrative support to The Accountability Group.
