Board Development
Is your board doing a solid job governing?
Do directors know their responsibilities?
Are your board meetings effective?
Every board can go the next level. We help board directors to discover not only what their fundamental responsibilities are, but also how to add value to an organization’s life and mission while supporting management in management's critical role. We facilitate purposeful leaders having the creative conversation that leads to lasting legacies.
Boards need to evaluate themselves in terms of how they are fulfilling their responsibilities. We know the best practices happening in governance today. Our goal is to become sufficiently conversant with your organization to suggest what might be your next steps.
More than the the usual “role” and best practice conversations, if you're ready, we help boards engage in what are called “generative” conversations. These conversations help directors to discuss their organization in fresh ways and to discover their board's legacy (working with senior staff) in the unfolding history of their organization.
Session Topics include:
- Roles and Responsibilities of Boards and Directors
- Governance Models 101
- Effective Board Agendas
- Who Does What: Aligning Accountabilities between the Board, its Committees and Management
- Board Evaluation
- The Legacy Agenda
- Board/Stakeholder Engagement Planning
Governance Reviews
Lyn and her team lead governance reviews. This is when a board wants to reexamine its own composition, governance model (how it has structured its delegation to committees and staff), membership structure, organizational policies and by-laws -- or all those things combined. Our experience helps organizations implement this process effectively with sensitivity to relationships and the change process required. The result? A successful governance change process.
