About Lyn

Lyn McDonell is a governance, strategy and organizational effectiveness consultant. She is a Chartered Director (C. Dir) and a Certified Management Consultant (CMC).

Lyn has deep hands-on leadership experience gained from senior positions in provincial and national Canadian not-for-profit organizations as Executive Director, COO and CEO. As COO, Lyn helped a board task force lead major governance change -- an initiative that later earned that organization the Conference Board of Canada/Spencer Stuart 2005 National Award for Not-for-Profit Governance.  As CEO of a national organization, Lyn gained experience leading a dynamic multi-level organization that joined grassroots motivation and governance, corporate sponsorship support, and caring Canadians.

Lyn earned her Masters of Arts (MA) in organizational development focusing on the life cycle of organizations. She has specialized training in strategy development gained from the Advanced Strategy Executive Program of the Ivey Business School and the USA-based Balanced Scorecard Collaborative/The Palladium Group.  She knows how to develop and map sound strategy using the Balanced Scorecard method. Lyn understands change management and the learning journey of leaders and people towards alignment, performance and excellence.  Lyn is a trained facilitator and focuses on misson while helping organizations move forward.

Regarding governance, in 2006, Lyn earned her professional designation (Chartered Director - C.Dir.) from The Directors College, accredited by McMaster University.  For four years till late 2017, Lyn chaired the Not-for-Profit Organizations Committee of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA), which oversees the production of guidance on governance. For nine years, Lyn served on the board of Canada's largest urban community hospital in leadership positions.  As a result, Lyn developed a special interest and expertise in performance and quality oversight.  Expertise and perspective backs up her work with boards seeking to assure themselves of optimal organizational impact. 

Today, Lyn, as President, leads the Council of the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of Ontario which confers the Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation. The CMC represents commitment to the highest standards of consulting and to the ethical canons of the profession.  

Lyn is Course Director at York University for the course "Accountability Issues in the Public Sector" in the Master of Financial Accountability (MFAc) Graduate Program at York University Winter 2018. 

Lyn contributes to publications including Association magazine and the Conference Board of Canada's Stewardship Review.  She is a popular presenter and gives webinars and presentations for leaders in many sectors.
